Clarify policy around character resets

The home page says: "We are no longer reseting, so any character you create will persist through beta and into full release."


Despite this assurance, I woke up to find that the character Amineral has had most of his Aura exp reset. I'm assuming this was related to the discussion yesterday regarding that he was only able to gain more exp than other players due to a balance change surrounding gongs. This is very discouraging, since this is a game based on incremental progress, and I now feel like that progress can be taken away through no fault of my own, despite the welcoming message saying that it can't.


Other balance changes have not applied retrospectively, however: for example, when the "Look for Hardwood Trees" action was changed to give more Hardwood Logs and fewer regular Logs, those of us who spent thousands of actions on it did not find thousands of extra Hardwood Logs in our inventories, nor did we find that the regular Logs we had acquired previously to this rebalancing had been removed to account for the change. When the Burning Saints' clan compounds were bugged and other clans were able to make progress but we weren't, those other clans weren't nerfed in the name of fairness.


I'm not saying we should have gotten more hardwood or that those other clans should have been nerfed. Just giving examples where the policy appears inconsistent: some changes do apply retrospectively (with characters getting reset to a fraction of their progress) and others do not.


So could we receive a clarification of the policy? When will a character's progress be removed? When can we expect the game to be stable enough that there will actually not be any more resets, and how will that be announced? Can the home page be updated to reflect the fact that characters can still get reset if balance changes are made?

With the transition from alpha to beta we reset all xp, inventories, clans, etc. Everything was reset to 0. We will not do this again. The only reason for the reset of Amineral wasn't because of the nerfing, so much as because of a mistake on my part with giving so much aura xp to start. It was never intended to be able to get as much xp as amineral got. I've worked with him about it, and although it's discouraging to both he and I, I felt like it should be done mostly because of what I want out of the game. Auras are supposed to be a very slow progression skill, mostly done by casting auras.


So in short, i'll find a different way to balance things in the future, but I felt like I had to fix this one.
